FAQ

ARE YOUR ITEMS STERLING SILVER?

All the styles we carry that are labeled sterling silver contain 92.5% pure silver, or fine silver. Sterling silver is a silver alloy containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper.

Our Gold Plate Vermeil Style items are either 14K gold, or 18K rose gold plated over sterling silver. We also carry a small selection of 18K gold over brass. In many cases this option proves to be quite economical over the sterling silver core with the same high quality gold plate.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR STERLING SILVER?

Please read our Care Instractions for detailed information on caring for sterling silver jewelry components.

WHY DOES STERLING SILVER JEWELRY TARNISH OVER TIME?

ALL sterling silver jewelry will age and tarnish naturally. However, with proper care, your precious metal will retain its beauty and shine. It is therefore recommended to clean your jewelry regularly if you want to keep your pieces in pristine condition.

Silver tarnishes when it is exposed to the air. This process is called oxidization and results in a tarnishing effect on the silver which is called Silver Sulphate. This is the chemical reaction the other metals and copper have with the air. This is what creates that blue/brown look on the silver. It can also leave marks on your skin if you haven’t cleaned the jewelry item.

HOW LONG WILL GOLD PLATING LAST?

Gold plating naturally wears off over time, to make it last never use any soaps or chemicals while wearing gold plating, including washing hands.

DOES YOUR JEWELLERY CONTAIN NICKEL?

No our metals do not contain nickel but our gold plated pieces may contain traces of nickel.
